akinoomoshin Vision & Purpose

Our knowledge systems were interrupted by colonizing systems brought to Turtle Island and because of this we do not often hear our sound, anishinaabedinwin, being spoken naturally in our families, communities and throughout anishinaabe akiing; however, we are now working hard to connect with our ways of being, thinking, knowing, doing, and learning.  

Our Vision

Our vision is that we will again have a generations of anishinaabek who enjoy healthy lives as intended by gchi manidoo. We will be strong in our language and being because we put our ways of knowing first.  We will be able to move peacefully in creation because we know our Creation Story and we are confident in this truth.   

Statement of Purpose

We know that our children come to creation complete with spiritual connectedness – they have their name, their purpose, their sound and their free will.  

Our role as supportive adults and community, is to support our children to connect to their purpose and to experience the freedom for their spirit to touch this life.  

We seek to offer an anishinaabek way of knowledge transmission for our children, youth, families and communities.

Objectives

  • Promoting knowledge sharing that will nurture learners and ensuremino-bimaadiziwn (a good and healthy life) for our learners, their families, and, in our communities;                                                                                                      
  • Centering anishinaabemowin to restore our sound and support fluency development of our children, families, and, in our communities;                                                                                           
  • Providing a teaching lodge learning environment situated in anishinaabek worldview, that instills anishinaabe ways of being, thinking, knowing, and, doing, before introducing other knowledges;                                                                                                                                      
  • Centering earth learning so that learners develop a healthy relationship with shkaakmikwe and come to know how to live as an integral part of creation;                                                                                                                                                        
  • Following anishinaabe izhichigewin knowledge that is rooted in anishinabek understanding of human development and spiritual connection;  
  • Re-establishing anishinaabe pedagogies so that we can carefully transmit and transfer knowledge, keeping the next seven generations at the forefront of our thoughts;  
  • Working together to support a nurturing, non-coercive learning environment that is not only responsive to the needs of learners but learner led and at the pace at which they want to learn and connect with their gifts;      
  • Supporting anishinaabek to heal from intergenerational trauma with trauma and wellness informated practices so that we can put down the bundles of hurt that we carry; and, 
  • Supporting anishinaabek who want to create similar learning in their communities.
